Social Inclusion

Show Racism the RED Card has an important role to play in Football Inclusion in Wales, we aim to encourage BME communities to become actively involved in football at all levels.WFT Inclusion Festival March 09 075.jpg

Our overall aim is to stop Racism in society by using football as a tool to ensure we have inclusive communities in Wales irrespective of race, gender, nationality, culture or religion, this will be achieved by increasing the number of roles models and at all levels of the game specifically with playing, coaching and refereeing.

These Role Models will become SRtRC Ambassadors within the community.

Our Wales Campaign works closely with the Football Association of Wales, Sports Council for Wales and the Welsh Football Trust (WFT) towards Social Inclusion in Football throughout Wales.

SRtRC Wales have developed projects in conjunction with the WFT and their Inclusion officer Hafizur (Mizan) Rahman to help increase the number of BME participants in Playing, Coaching and refereeing within Football at all levels from Grassroots to senior.

Overviews to our Inclusion Projects in Wales are below:

Increasing number of BME Players in Football

SRtRC are launching new projects that include a football freestyle competition and tutorial sessions, primary school football festvals and a secondary school Futsal tournament to help support players of all ages towards breaking down barriers that exist for BME communities in Wales.

Increasing Number of BME Coaches - Football Coaching Workshop

This is a 2 hour introduction to the FAW Level 1 (Leaders Award) coaching Certificate for anyone who has difficulties accessing information or does not feel confident to access the Level 1 course direct.CIMG0017.JPG

The first hour is an indoor based session discussion of what to expect from the official Level 1 course, the benefits of qualifications and where these can lead in terms of employment and opportunities.

Information on where, how and when a Level 1 course can be accessed in Wales will be provided.

Candidates will then have the opportunity during the second hour to take part in practical football coaching sessions, which will demonstrate some examples of what will be covered and learnt on the official Level 1 course.

Football Coaching Link Up Scheme

Those who have attended the SRtRC Coaching Introduction workshop who are interested in becoming involved with football coaching will be provided with contact information to ‘Link Up’ with a local football club or group to become involved and receive mentoring.

Clubs and organisations can sign up to the scheme for free. All they have to provide is their club details and information on roles in their club which participants can get involved with.   Interested candidates will then be signposted to the nearest ‘Link Up’ registered club or organisation and receive information to get in contact and be placed in a club environment.

If you run a club and want to be part of the scheme download and complete the registration form HERE and return electronically or return via post.

Increasing the number of Referees -  Workshop

A Scheme developed by the WFT specifically for young school children (14-18) provides a workshop that gives an interactive and fun insight into the world of Refereeing.

Participants will have the opportunity during a workshop that runs for 3 - 5 hours to lean some basic rules and then use Yellow / RED cards as well as Flags during video clips to determine the decision they would make if they were the referee in charge of the game.

They have the opportunity to actually referee a game during the session and see the ‘beautiful game’ from a different perspective.

It is not compulsory for candidates to attend the 12 week official affiliation course thereafter, although those who do wish to will be are given information and support on how to become a referee.

All candidates will have the opportunity to referee schools festivals in Wales in the future.

Youth Forum (Peer led support group)
SRtRC are launching a youth forum in Cardiff to provide the opportunity for young people from the community to express their views about preventing and challenging racism through the use of football and increasing the number of players, coaches and referees from BME communities.

Ambassador Scheme
Our Ambassador scheme encourages people within the community to be active role models in supporting SRtRC and its projects.
We are launching the scheme next season which will conclude with a end of season awards evening to honour those who have been active in supporting and promoting the Campaign in Wales throughout the season.
