Chris Kamara Biography
Chris Kamara currently works as a pundit and presenter for Sky Sports. When he first agreed to be a patron of Show Racism the Red Card in 1996, he was manager of Bradford City FC having just finished his playing career, which took in spells at 9 clubs around England, making 641 league appearances. As a defender at clubs such as Portsmouth, Swindon Town, Brentford, Stoke, Leeds and Luton during the 70s and 80s, Chris often had to endure racism directed at him from the terraces. His comments on the SRtRC 1998 film about feeling unwelcome in certain boardrooms and dressing rooms as a manager, drew attention to how much football clubs needed to change to move with the times. Although racism inside football grounds was not as patently obvious as it had been in the previous two decades, racist attitudes within the game still existed.
Chris was inducted in to the SRtRC Hall of Fame at it’s first ceremony, held at Coutts Bank in 2004. He has attended many SRtRC events over the years and his contribution to panel discussions is always insightful and has a real impact on the audience.
