Huddersfield Town AFC

22 November 2006

Show Racism the Red Card took part in this event organised by Kirklees Council, to combat bullying in all forms. We had a separate room from the main area, where other projects were facilitating workshops and had stalls, for our event. We condensed the usual format of our events so that we could see two groups of young people in the space of an hour.

As with most SRTRC events, we had some great support from players of the region. Matt Glennon attended on behalf of Huddersfield Town AFC, from Bradford City AFC Steven Schumacher & Mark Bower attended, Leigh Bromby came from Sheffield United FC and John Hendrie, one of SRTRC's Honorary Patrons were on hand to take part in two different Question and Answer sessions.

There were 35 school pupils in each group. Kieron Brady chaired the event on behalf of SRTRC and at the start of each session briefly explained what racism is before we screened the first section of the video. After this the question and answer session followed and every young person who asked a question received a wristband. The players handled the questions very well and it appeared that each audience took away a very positive message back to their schools.

Our thanks to all the players who attended the event. To Qaisar Mahmood and Sinead Boyle from Kirklees Council for organising the event and the other staff from the council for their help on the day. Huddersfield Town AFC for hosting the event and Kieron Brady and Paul Kearns for their help in running the event on behalf of SRTRC.
