EventsDarlington FC28 February 2007 Young people from a variety of age groups attended a Show Racism the Red Card anti-racist event at The Darlington TFM Arena. Darlington FC did a great job again, hosting a packed event and giving us great organisational support. In total the audience amounted to around 100 young people from local schools, plus adults. To entertain the audience Richard Braithwaite of Silky Skills attended to demonstrate his tricks. Richard had also brought with him one of his skills students, Michael Kwan. Both Richard and Michael impressed the audience greatly and it was a superb way to start the event. We were fortunate to have two players from the club in attendance to take part: Sam Russell and Craig James. Also on the panel was long-serving honorary patron: Curtis Fleming. Between the three players, all the questions during the Question & Answer session, that followed a showing of the DVD, were answered brilliantly. The club had also donated prizes for the best questions, which Curtis picked, including pairs of tickets for the derby game against Hartlepool FC, two signed balls and two signed shirts! Everyone who asked a question received an SRTRC wristband. In addition to this the club also made sure that everyone received free tickets for a game at the end of the event. It was great to be back at Darlington and we hope to continue this productive partnership in future years. The impression SRTRC had is that the young people really enjoyed the event and participated fully. We hope that the strong anti-racist message was taken back to the schools of the members of the audience. We would like to thank Sam, Craig and Curtis for attending. Thanks to Richard and Michael for attending. Also a big thank you is due to Debbie Rance of Darlington FC for her help in organising the event, as well as Kevin Stonehouse of the club for his work in getting the young people from local schools to attend. |
