EventsMiddlesbrough FC07 March 2007 Abel Xavier, Andy Taylor and James Morrison helped Middlesbrough FC "Show Racism the red Card" at our event at the Riverside Stadium. The 3 players along with Ged, Kieron Brady and David Foster from our management committee, who chaired the event, made up the top table for an afternoon that was attended by nearly 100 young people from local schools. On arriving, the children helped themselves to Posters, magazines and stickers and then took their seats to watch our latest DVD. Following the film, the children fired questions at the panel who dealt expertly with some difficult answers. Abel Xavier proved himself an excellent speaker and spoke with passion and understanding about the problems of racism, both in football and society as a whole. Middlesbrough FC kindly donated a signed Shirt and a signed ball for the best question and Kieron and Ged had the difficult task of picking the winners. The players then took part in a mass autograph signing and picture taking session and the afternoon finished with a tour round the dressing rooms and pitch-side dugouts. The event was well attended by local and National Media and we received a good write up in Middlesbrough Evening Gazette, and a posting is available on the Boro website. Our thanks go to Middlesbrough FC for hosting the event, Di O'Connell and Dave Allen from the club for their help and support and especially to the players who gave their time to attend. |
