Tranmere Rovers FC

20 March 2007

Show Racism the Red Card have enjoyed a good relationship with Tranmere Rovers FC for many years, regularly producing posters with the club and TRFC have always managed to send players to other events in the region. It was great then that Tranmere Rovers agreed to host their first event with SRTRC and around 80 young people from local schools were able to come to the John Aldridge (SRTRC Honorary Patron) suite for the event.

The event followed our usual format of showing the DVD, followed by a Question and Answer session. The panel answering the questions included TRFC players Calvin Zola (SRTRC Honorary Patron) and Robbie Stockdale, Alan Johnson of Everton FC, Gary Bennett and Cllr Anna Rothery. Before the screening of the DVD and the Q&A took place, the audience were treated to a display of football tricks by Mr Silky Skills, Richard Braithwaite. As always, Richard entertained the audience and got the event off to a great start.

There were some very good questions during the Q&A session and the club had kindly donated a signed ball to be given to the young person who asked the best question of the day. The audience were very keen to ask questions and the panel handled them very well. At the end of the event the audience were able to get the autographs of Robbie and Calvin.

SRTRC would like to thank all who attended on the day, particularly the young people and Robbie, Calvin, Alan, Anna and Gary for being on the panel. Thanks also to Dawn Kenny and Bob Saunders of MB Wirral and Gary Simcock of Skills Force for their help in helping SRTRC contact schools about the event. Big thanks are due to Tranmere Rovers for hosting the event and especially Gill Fogg, Julie Simons and Steve Jones for their help in organising it.
