EventsMacclesfield Town FC19 September 2007 Show Racism the Red Card again got to work a football club we have not previously worked with at Macclesfield Town FC, the third new club of the season! Just under 100 Year 5 & Year 6 pupils from 2 local primary schools attended the Moss Rose Ground to take part in the educational event, which I think was well received. The club had played the night before and won and we were fortunate enough to have the goalscorer, Michael Husbands there and fellow first team player, Levi Reid, who both took part in a Q&A session, as did SRtRC's Gary Bennett. All of the young people received SRtRC goody bags on arrival, which included the new Macclesfield Town FC / SRtRC poster, a magzine and our school competition/ winners' artwork poster. Unusually, we held the Q&A at the start of the event, as the players had to leave at half past two. The club had provided a signed ball as a prize for the best question and SRtRC had three of our T-Shirts which Michael and Levi signed, to give to Gary's favourite question of the day. The questions from the young people were superb and Gary and I agreed afterwards that they were some of the best questions we have heard at an event. After Gary had picked his favourite questions and the lucky winners had received their prizes, the players signed autographs for all before leaving the event to applause from the audience. After the player's departed we screened the DVD and it was well received by the audience. SRtRC gave a copy of the DVD to each school for use within their schools. Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank Macclesfield Town FC for hosting the event and particularly to Jef Tyler, Elaine and Sally for their help in organising the event and running it on the day. Big thanks also go to all of the young people who attended and the players for taking part. |
