Asylum seeker dies after assault

A Chinese man who suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked yards from his home in Glasgow's Sighthill estate has died in hospital.

Wei Wang, 41, died in the Southern General Hospital on Sunday, 12 days after a "totally unprovoked" attacked.

A murder hunt is under way and police have appealed for witnesses to the attack at 0055 BST on Tuesday 25 July outside flats at 19 Pinkston Drive.

Mr Wang arrived in Glasgow from London three months ago.

Detective Chief Inspector John Riggans said: "This seems to be a totally unprovoked attack and we need the assistance of the public in an effort to trace the person or persons responsible.

"In particular, we would like to trace some of the people who came to Mr Wang's aid and would ask them to contact us as a matter of urgency."

Mr Wang had been in Troon on Monday 24 July and travelled back to Glasgow by train shortly before midnight.

He went by bus to Springburn Road and was yards from his flat when he was attacked.
