Claims of racial abuse in German Bundesliga

The German Football Association (DFB) is to investigate claims of racial abuse during Alemannia Aachen’s 1.Bundesliga game with Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

It has been reported that Borussia striker Kahe and Aachen’s Moses Sichone were both the target of defamatory remarks from the sell-out crowd at the Tivoli stadium.

The local derby ended in a 4-2 win for the home side but the three points have been overshadowed by events which could lead to a hefty fine and a stadium suspension.

Referee Michael Weiner’s report is being considered by the DFB, which set a precedent by banning Hansa Rostock from its Ostsee Stadium for one match, and could follow suit with Aachen.

The DFB is cracking down on racism and, further to fines and stadium bans, Aachen could be punished by the docking of points.
