Young people from Dens Road and Gowriehill Primary Schools attended Dundee FC on Tuesday 19 April 2011 for a Show Racism the Red Card Event.
The primary seven pupils had the opportunity to take part in an afternoon of enjoyable and educational activities. During the afternoon they watched Show Racism the Red Card’s film, which features some of the game’s greatest players; Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Didier Drogba, who all talk about their experiences of racism and offer advice on how to deal with, and combat, racism whenever it occurs.
Dundee FC first team players Kyle Benedictus and Craig Forsyth joined the panel, along with former professional footballers Derek Ferguson and Gary MacKay.
Amanda Peebles, Show Racism the Red Card, said:
“This kind of event is ideal for addressing the subject of racism, thanks to the club we have been able to organise an event that is both educational and fun. We are confident that the anti-racist message presented on the day will further illustrate the club’s commitment to tackling racism through education and will help show young people from the area that there is no room for racism in football or in society.”
“The players at the club offered some great contributions and shared personal stories, which further strengthened the anti-racism message".
