Pupils from all across Wales this week attended the Marriot Hotel in Cardiff for our Creative Arts Competition Awards 2017.
This year’s competition saw over 7,000 pupils take part from both primary and secondary schools across Wales and over 400 final entries were submitted to the competition judging stage. The panel of judges had a mammoth task on their hand to decide on the prize winning entries, including the overall winner.
The award ceremony was hosted by Alex Winters and Lisa Rogers and was supported by players from the Newport Gwent Dragons, Ospreys, Cardiff City and Swansea City ladies and the ceremony kicked off with a fantastic and energetic dance performance from pupils of Ysgol Pencae in Cardiff.
Young people then received a range of awards for their entries including a Kindle Fire / Amazon voucher, a trophy and a framed certificate. The overall winner was lucky to receive an iPad- courtesy of competition sponsors the National Union of Teachers.
Categories ranged from clothing design and creative writing to digital media and poster design. This year’s special category was to celebrate the life and achievements of Sir Mo Farah, which provided a platform for pupils to learn about the journey that many refugees take across the world.
The overall winner for 2017 was Tahmina Uddin from St. Helens Primary School in Swansea, who designed a fantastic piece of artwork on a canvas. Tahmina has also been a prize winner in our competition for each of the last three years and clearly has a talent.
We would like to congratulate all our prize winners, along with their teachers for the effort and creativity of competition entries, and to all of the special guests that supported the day, including the clubs and their players.
Thank you to the National Union of Teachers for sponsoring this year’s competition once again.
We look forward to the 2018 Creative Arts Competition for Wales.
