St Mirren FC Show Racism the Red Card
The Show Racism the Red Card team were delighted to be able to visit St Mirren FC on Tuesday 7th February to deliver an anti-racism educational event with local pupils from Glencoates Primary and St Jamesí Primary.

The event was the final day of a programme of anti-racism workshops that the young people had been participating in. Prior to the day at St Mirren FC Stadium the SRtRC education team had visited Glencoates Primary and St James’ to deliver 3 separate workshops looking at what racism is, why people move around the world and Islamophbia.
The event at St Mirren FC brought the young people together to celebrate the work they had being doing in class and to learn how to effectively challenge racism. The young people were also treated to a fun and fitness session with ex professional footballer Gary McSwegan and a stadium tour from Derek Ferguson.
During the afternoon session the pupils then had the opportunity to act as media journalists as part of a role play activity and posed some tough questions to a guest panel. The panel included St Mirren footballers Rocco Quinn and Jordan Stewart as well as Fiona Dianty St Mirren’
Nicola Hay Campaign Manager, Show Racism the Red Card, said:
“The dangers of racism are significant and education is vital in order that young people can recognise these and other forms of discrimination and be equipped to safely challenge them as they grow and develop.
“Schools in the area are very keen to engage with the campaign and the young people we have worked with are very positive about it.
“Rangers FC are strong supporters of the campaign and it is great to be able to bring local pupils along to their local stadium to learn about anti-racism with strong role models.”
