Show Racism the Red Card in Wales

SRTRC & Porthmadog FC - Day of Action

07 February 2007

Show Racism the Red CardDuring Porthmadog FC's recent home game against TNS in the 4th round of the Welsh Cup on 3rd February 2007, Porthmadog FC showed its total opposition to racism in a day of action.

The first team players as well as the lads from the under-9's wore T-shirts with the message "Show racism the red card". This followed decisive action by the club in response to one racist incident at y Traeth back in December 2006 when a linesman was racially abused by a spectator.

Show Racism the Red CardThe day of action involved fans being given anti-racism stickers on entry that they wore to show their support, also at half-time, youngsters from Porthmadogs under 9's team, who play in the Llyn and Eifionydd League, came on the field to take part in a penalty shoot out against Port's second keeper during half-time, the competition winner was given a signed football on behalf of the club and SRTRC.

The boys were also the ball-boys during the match and kept the SRTRC t-shirts on during the game, the highlights of the match were shown on S4C later in the evening and Porthmadog FC won the game in tense penalty shoot-out.
