Show Racism the Red Card in Wales

Wrexham FC hold a Show Racism the Red Card event

14 February 2007

Wrexham FC hosted a Show Racism the Red Card event on 14th Feb'07at Newi College that was attended by children from St Giles Primary School.

The event saw the unveiling of the new Wrexham FC / SRTRC poster, copies of which were distributed with magazines, bags and stickers.

A panel was assembled to answer questions from the children and included Wrexham players Shaun Pejic, Matt Crowell and Lee Roche. Also on the Panel and chairing was Wales Co-ordinator Sunil Patel accompanied by the UK Project Co-ordinator Ged Grebby and there was also a special guest at the event, Richard Braithwaite also know as 'Silky Skills Football Coach'.

The event started with Richard entertaining everyone with some incredible ball control skills that had us all captivated. Richard got the children involved and they learnt new skills and tricks to impress their friends whilst also learning about ball-control, co-ordination and definitely perseverance. The footballers from the club also participated and showed their ball control skills to the young audience.

Everyone then saw our DVD following which the children then asked questions on racism in sport and society to the panel, every questioner receiving a SRTRC wristband.

The questions asked were of high standard and the panel handled all the questions comprehensively, the overall winner of the best question received a football signed by all the Wrexham players and the runner-up received a KIO t-shirt also signed by the players from the club.

There was Media interest on the day with a reporter from local newspaper Evening Leader attending and covered the event.

Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank Wrexham FC and in particular Mark Morris and Andy Davies for organising the event, also the players from the club and our special guest Richard Braithwaite for his participation.
