Show Racism the Red Card in Wales

Wrexham FC - The Dragons lead the way

20 September 2007

We held our 2nd anti-racism football club event within 8 months with Wrexham FC at Newi College on 20th September 2007 as we kicked off our new season events in Wales.

SRTRC worked with Wrexham Council and Wrexham FC to organise the event with around 80 people in attendance. Wales Campaign Co-ordinator Sunil Patel was joined on the panel by players Anthony Williams, Michael Proctor and club captain Neil Roberts. Also on the panel was UK Office Manger Paul Kearns and guest speaker Malcolm Russell from Wrexham Council.

The local schools attending were Gwenfro Junior School and Penycae Juniors, the event started of with us showing our DVD to the young audience that was well received.

We then held a Q & A session during which the panel were asked testing questions on racism in football and society, the first question 'when did racism start ', set the standard for the rest of the questions. The players then decided amongst each other on the best question and the winner received a signed football donated by the club.

The winner then had her photo taken with the players who then signed autographs for the young audience. All the young people had a goody bag that included a magazine and posters. The event was concluded with a ground tour of the club that the children thoroughly enjoyed capping off an eventful afternoon.

SRTRC would like to thank all who attended the event, especially the players and the FITC team, we would also like to thank Wrexham Council and our volunteer Amal who assisted us during the event.
