Show Racism the Red Card in Wales

League to embrace FIFA Fair Play Weekend

22 September 2006

This weekend is the FIFA Fair Play Weekend and to show the League's support for this initiative, all eight matches played in the Principality Welsh Premier League this weekend will be marking the day with a pre-match ceremony.

At all Grounds in the League, the two teams will enter the field of play together, led by Match Officials with children carrying out the FIFA Fair Play Flag on to field. The children will then show the flag in close proximity to the players and match officials during the FIFA Handshake ceremony, which is frequently seen on the World stage at high profile competitions such as the FIFA World Cup and Champions League fixtures.

The PA Announcer will also read a FIFA Directive statement announcing that the Football Family will be celebrating the worldwide FIFA Fair Play Day and that FIFA, the Football Association of Wales and the Principality Welsh Premier League are proud to dedicate its matches to Fair Play, encourage all players, coaches and officials, together with fans in Wales to play fair, both on the pitch and off it.

League Secretary John Deakin stated, "The Principality Welsh Premier League is certainly extremely proud to be advocating this important weekend and hopes that all clubs, players, officials and spectators will embrace it also." Last season, the League was also proud to show its support to the Anti-Racism Week of Action by displaying 'Show Racism the Red Card' posters at all League grounds.
