Show Racism the Red Card in Wales

League Supports the FARE Week of Action

30 October 2006

As part of the Principality Welsh Premier League's Anti-Racism campaign, and in conjunction with the FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) Week of Action, all Principality Welsh Premier League clubs showed their support to the campaign at last weekend's fixtures.

Players and Officials entered the Field of Play displaying "Show Racism the Red Card" posters as Role Models to spectators and they also had Team Photographs taken with the Red Cards. A statement of support was also read over the Public Address system.

Principality Welsh Premier League Secretary, John Deakin stated, "The Principality Welsh Premier League and its clubs are committed to the fight against racism in football, and players and spectators alike are encouraged to respect players and officials whatever their race or creed. I'm pleased that the whole League joined together last weekend in ensuring that racism is never a problem in Welsh Football."

UEFA, the Football Association of Wales and the Welsh Premier League are proud to be backing the FARE Action Week against racism and discrimination. We appreciate the opportunity to underline our unwavering commitment to eradicating racism in our game. We know that racism can't be beaten in a single week, but we hope these activities will be a catalyst that engages more and more members of the football family in the fight against racism and discrimination.
